Know Your Audience
If you know two things you can create a message for anything:
-- Who's your audience?
-- What's your objective?
To know your audience, you have to meet your audience. It's not about demographics or household income or age or median income or number of children in the house. It's about knowing that Jim is raising money for the band and that Sally volunteers at the local elementary school.
Your target audience can not be summed up in data about age and sex. Your target audience lives within a one mile radius of your store or they work in the building next to you. What is important to them? The more you know, the better able you are to craft a message and reach the audience.
The more you know about your audience, the more effective you will be at modifying their consumer behavior to choose your widgets whenever they're in the mood for a widget. You have to be personal, consistent, and, above all, frequent with your messages. Learn to surround your audience with messages and you're halfway there.
That's Marketing to Mayberry.
